June

Recently I’ve heard a lot of people talking about self care. To be honest I’ve never paid much attention to this “term/concept” or believed such a thing existed for myself or even needed to exist. I thought I would put it to the test. I left the little with Grammy and packed my bags. Although it did feel like I was leaving my heart behind, and I had the worst “mom guilt” ever, never having left my 2.5 year old son before. I must admit I was pretty excited about some much needed me time. I arrived in Toronto and explored the city. Someone once told me that exploring a new city can be a very freeing experience and she was right. Although Toronto wasn’t a new city to me, it’s the first time I explored it like it was. I think I walked from one end to the other, I could have taken other transportation but something told me that by walking I wouldn’t miss a thing. There were a few times I got my east and west mixed up, but it only led me to more interesting finds. I took my time when it seemed like everyone was […]

CHILDHOOD LIVING

by Amy· June 30, 2016· in Journal· 0 comments
…childhood living is easy to do… I have been documenting and capturing images of my son since day 1. I love being able to see and capture the beautiful things in all the activities we do as a family in our normal little lives. With every session I like to tell a story, our story, his story. I now have an ongoing collection of memories and images that someday he will be proud to show off to his own little family. I like to call them my time keepsakes. Nothing is planned ahead of time and no props are used, unless he insists on having one of his favorite toys accompany him on his adventure. We simply just live, do an activity we love, visit one of our favorite spots, just things we would typically do in our everyday life. I work with the elements that surround us and use the natural light to my advantage. I still use my photography knowledge and skills to create the best image possible but my end goal with these sessions is to tell a story. For me I want to remember the little in between moments, the ever changing expressions, the giggles and […]

MAMA PAJAMA…

by Amy· May 07, 2016· in Journal· 0 comments
Well I’m on my way. I don’t know where I’m going. Happy Mother’s Day weekend, here’s a peak into my life as a mom. I’m not a perfect mom by any means, but my son thinks so. So welcome to my new job. In my new job there are days when we stay in our pajama’s, watch a little tv and eat…shhh…sugar. Did I mention that I love my new job. There are rules in my new job, some followed some not, but we try our best. In my new job, I’m a magic creator, a boo boo fixer, a monster chaser, and a baseball coach?…The thing is, there’s no manual for my job, no rule book, and no two jobs, or children for that matter are the same. A mother knows her child. I know that I’m creating a world where my child can be a child, I’m building my sons self worth and confidence, morals and manners. I will teach him it’s okay to fail and great to succeed, to taste the bitterness of defeat and the sweetness of victory and to learn from both. Essentially I will try my best to teach my son to follow his […]

MAY YOU STAY FOREVER YOUNG…

by Amy· March 04, 2016· in Journal· 0 comments
My son has reignited my passion for photography and become my muse. At his young age he’s already taught me so many things about life, about myself…things I want to remember forever. I get to see everything in life all over again through the eyes of a child, and it’s pure magic. I’m so very lucky to have my son and the opportunity to capture these moments, scoop up the memories and allow my son to stay forever young.

MAMA DON’T TAKE MY KODACHROME AWAY…

by Amy· February 26, 2016· in Journal· 0 comments
When it comes to my childhood my memory isn’t great, but one thing that stays with me is the memory of my first photograph. Now that photograph itself was by no means any work of art. I was just little at the time and my mothers camera was sitting on the kitchen table. I wasn’t allowed to touch the camera, being a special expensive piece of equipment, but I really wanted to, I just had to. Without moving the camera, I climbed onto one of the kitchen chairs, got on my knees, peeped through the viewfinder and pressed down on the shutter. Then I heard it…that magical duel clicking noise followed by the cranking of the tiny leaver to advance the film. Now came the anticipation of just what would appear on my image. I had to wait, and wait a long time. The rest of the film needed to be used up, then the tiny film canister needed to be dropped off in town for processing. I can’t remember just how long the whole process took…days…weeks…months? But I do remember how I felt when I saw that image for the first time, that poorly lit, non composed image of […]
